Parents, carers and family members are by far the most important influences in their children’s lives. They mould how young people think about education, their future and society.
Therefore, their support for our schools and engagement in learning are powerfully significant if the learning outcomes for each child in our school are to be more than just aspirations.
Parental engagement can be defined in a variety of ways. It can include the idea of parental involvement. However, parents can be involved in school activities without being engaged in their children’s learning. It is parental engagement in their children’s learning that brings about significant gains in achievement.
At Churchtown we have a wide variety of opportunities for parents to engage in school life and their childs learning.
As part of our continued efforts to raise the standards of reading in school, we encourage adults to come in and help with reading across the school from the beginning of November. Reading regularly to an adult has been shown to significantly increase the rate of progress that children can make with reading —over the years the Churchtown Primary parent volunteers have made a huge difference for numerous children.
We would welcome parents, grandparents and carers who would enjoy coming into school for a morning or afternoon to listen to some children read. You would be known as our ‘Reading Angels’. You would work with the same children class and teacher each week, getting to know the children and watching them make progress.
Volunteering in a primary school is subject to the same safer recruitment procedures as employed staff. This means that all volunteers are required to complete an application process, attend a meeting or interview, and provide references.
In addition, volunteers must undergo a full induction, complete safeguarding training, and obtain an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check before starting their role. These steps ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils.

Many thanks for your continued support.
As a school we have a Baby and Toddler group. The club just costs £1 and everyone is welcome. It is run by Ms L Cornish who works in Early Years.
It is held on a Monday from 8.50am to 10.30am in The Early Years Hall, we ask that parents & children arrive before 9.15am where possible.
Parents must sign in at the School Office before attending the group for fire evacuation purposes.
If parents have a concern or worry then it important that this is shared immediately. We always listen to concerns and take action; however small the worry may seem. We work with a range of partner agencies to ensure our children and families have access to external partners:

Medication
Churchtown Primary School will accept antibiotics in school and administer them to your child when required. We do not administer any over-the-counter medications.
If your child requires a dose of antibiotics during the school day, you must visit the school office to complete the appropriate consent form. The medication will be sent home with your child each afternoon and must be returned to the school office the following day.
